Junk car pickup from the street or alley
Instant Cash for Junk Cars picks up junk cars from Chicago streets and alleys, not only driveways. Tell us exactly where the car sits and what's around it, and the driver shows up ready for that spot. The tow is free, payment happens at the curb, and same-day pickup is often possible.
Can a junk car be picked up from the street in Chicago?
Yes. A junk car parked on a Chicago street or in an alley can be picked up where it sits, as long as the tow truck can stop beside or in front of it. Tell us the side of the street, the cross street and anything blocking it. The tow is free, and payment is made at pickup.
Where Chicago junk cars actually sit
On a lot of West Side blocks there’s no driveway at all. The car that stopped running in February is still at the curb, or it’s in the slab behind the two-flat, or it’s half inside a garage that faces the alley. That’s normal. We plan the pickup around the spot instead of asking you to move a car that doesn’t move. Repair-shop lots and apartment or HOA lots work too, as long as whoever runs the lot lets the truck in.
What matters is whether the truck can get close. Here’s what we’ll ask about.
What to tell us about the spot
The more exact you are on the call, the less time the driver spends circling the block.
| If the car is… | Tell us |
|---|---|
| On a two-way street | Which side, the nearest cross street, and whether the space in front is open |
| On a one-way street | The direction of traffic and which side it’s parked on |
| Parked in tight | How close the cars in front and behind are, and whether one of them is yours |
| In an alley | Which end of the alley is easier to enter, and if it’s narrow, gated or has poles close in |
| Nose-in against a fence or garage | Whether it can be pulled out backward, and if the garage door has to open |
| In a permit zone or on a street cleaning day | The posted times, so the pickup happens before the sweeper or the ticket |
Also tell us if there are no keys, if the tires are flat, or if the steering wheel is locked. The driver needs to know before arriving, not at the curb.
Clear it before the truck arrives
A few minutes of prep saves the driver a lot of maneuvering:
- Move your other car if it’s boxing the junk car in.
- Take your things out of the car, including the glove box and trunk.
- Unlock the gate or open the garage if the car is behind one.
- If it’s snowed in, dig out enough to see the wheels.
Then be there, or have the person named on the title there, with the paperwork. The order of events once the truck pulls up is in what happens when your junk car is picked up.
The city’s word on junk vehicles
One line from the city is worth knowing. The Chicago City Clerk’s vehicle sticker guidance lists “junk vehicles” among the vehicles prohibited from parking on any residential or business street. That’s the Clerk’s wording, and the rule details and penalties are the city’s to explain. The practical takeaway is simple: a car that’s done shouldn’t sit on the block longer than it has to.
Neighborhood notes
Every area page on this site has pickup notes for its own blocks: which side of the Eisenhower you’re on in Austin, the parade days on Division in Humboldt Park, the shared rear lots behind North Lawndale greystones. Start at the West Side pickup notes, or go straight to same-day cash for junk cars in Chicago and send the car’s details.
Questions people ask
Can you pick up a car that's parked on the street?
Yes. A street pickup is usually simple: the truck pulls up beside or in front of the car. Tell us the side of the street and the nearest cross street so the driver finds it on the first pass.
The car is in the alley behind my garage. Is that a problem?
Usually not, as long as the truck can get into the alley and nothing blocks the car. Tell us if it's nose-in against a fence, if the garage door has to open, or if the alley is narrow at your end.
What if the car has no keys or flat tires?
Tell us on the call, before the driver heads out. It changes how the car gets loaded, and we'll tell you then if it changes anything else.
Is a car at a garage or in a building's lot still a same-day stop?
Yes. Get the shop's or the lot manager's OK for the truck to come in, and tell us on the call who to ask for.
Do I have to move my other car?
If it blocks the junk car, yes. Clear the space in front of or beside the car you're selling before the truck arrives.
